Mausoleum “Astana-baba”, together with the mausoleum of Allamberdar (Almutasir), is part of the city-museum of Atamurat, located on the territory of the ancient settlement of Amul-Chardzhui, which is located on the outskirts of the city of Turkmenabad.
Mausoleum “Astana-baba” consists of a mosque and a tomb, the construction of which belongs to the 11th – 12th centuries. These two buildings, built at different times, are so close to each other that they are difficult to imagine separately. On the territory of this mausoleum are held “zyarat” – ritual worship of saints, conducted by Muslim pilgrims.
It is not exactly known who exactly was the Astana- Baba, but the place of his burial on which the mausoleum is located is considered sacred and brings healing, relief of diseases and getting rid of all ills. Here comes a large number of Muslim pilgrims.
